SPRINGHILL MINING DISASTER -------------------------- U2 Here's U2's cover version of Springhill mining disaster. As far as I know there's 2 versions of this song, one performed on the Late Late Show and the other at Chicago in April 1987. I have tabbed this from the Late Late Show programme and I'm sure about the tab coz I can actually see what Edge is playing. The guitar is in normal tune with a capo on the second fret. ALL chords and tab are RELITIVE to the capo. The Chicago version is very similar but tuned down half a step (or you can just put a capo on the first fret instead...) This is the intro, played twice: E------------------|-----------------| B-------------8----|------------8-7--| G--------9------9--|-------9---------| D------9---9-------|-----9---9-------| A------------------|--0--------------| E---0--------------|-----------------| The verses are just argeggiated chords for example: Em A Em Bm E--------------------------------------| B---------------2-----------------3----| G------0----------2------0----------4--| D--------2----2------------2----4------| A----2------0----------2------2--------| E--0-----------------0-----------------| And these two fills are added: Fill 1: E------------------| B--------5-4-2-4---| G------4-----------| D----4-------------| A--2---------------| E------------------| Fill 2: E------------------------------------| B--5---5---4---4---2---2---4---4-----| G----4---4---4---4---4---4---4---4---| D------------------------------------| A------------------------------------| E------------------------------------| Em A Em Bm In the town of Springhill Novascotia Em A B Fill 1 Down in the dark of the Cumberland mines Em A D G There's blood on the coal and the miners lie Em A Em Bm In roads that never saw sun nor sky Em A Em B Fill 2 In roads that never saw sun nor sky The other verses continue in the same way and towards the end Edge starts strumming the chords. That's all there is apart from the outro: E------------------|-----------------|-----| B-------------8----|------------8-7--|--8--| G--------9------9--|-------9---------|--9--| D------9---9-------|-----9---9-------|--9--| A------------------|--0--------------|--0--| E---0--------------|-----------------|--0--| See ya jules. jules153@hotmail.com U2's "Springhill Mining Disaster" --------------------------------- Transcribed by: S.Palmer Intro: Am Dm e|------------0---------|-------------1---------| b|------1-------1-------|-------3--------3------| g|---------2------2-----|----2-----2--------2---| d|----2-------------2---|-0---------------------| a|-0--------------------|-----------------------| E|----------------------|-----------------------| *Note: For most of the song, the Edge isn't strumming the chords, but picking them. Generally, they are picked in this fashion: ie:(first line) Am D Am G e|-------------|-------2-----|-------------|------3-----| b|-------1-----|----------3--|-------1-----|---------0--| g|----------2--|----2--------|----------2--|------------| d|----2--------|-0-----------|----2--------|---0--------| a|-0-----------|-------------|-0-----------|------------| E|-------------|-------------|-------------|-3----------| Am D Am G In the town of Springhill, Nova Scotia Am C D C Down in the dark of the Cumberland mine Am D C Am There's blood on the coal and the miners lie Am D Am G In roads that never saw sun nor sky, Am D Am G Roads that never saw sun nor sky Am-D-Am-G Am-D-Am-G In the town of Springhill, don't sleep easy Often the earth will tremble and roar But when the earth is restless miners die Bone and blood is the price of coal, Bone and blood is the price of coal Listen to the shouts of the black faced miners Listen to the call of the rescue team We have no water, light or bread So we're livin' on songs and hope instead, Livin' on songs and hope instead In the town of Springhill, Nova Scotia Down in the dark of the Cumberland mine There's blood on the coal and the miners lie In roads that never saw sun nor sky, Roads that never saw sun nor sky In the town of Springhill, don't sleep easy Often the earth will tremble and roar But when the earth is restless miners die Bone and blood is the price of coal, Bone and blood is the price of coal, Bone and blood is the price of coal Outro: Am-Dm-Am-Dm (same as intro)
